An incident of shots fired was reported early this morning at a party at a house in Indiana Borough.
The shooting was reported at 1:55 AM at a home in the 800 block of Wayne Avenue. Police Chief Justin Schawl said that around 20 people were at a house party when a fight broke out, and a shot was fired. After the shot, people fled from the house. No injuries were reported from the gunshot but one person was injured during the brawl.
The suspect in the case is still at large. An eyewitness has described the suspect as a black man in his early 20’s with a black coat, grey hooded sweatshirt with black lining with dark pants. Police say he was not directly involved in the fight, and the shot was not specifically directed at anyone in particular.
IUP did send out an emergency alert about the shooting to the students, asking students to shelter in place and remain vigilant, as per university protocol. This is not expected to affect any activities on campus today, including the Home Show at the KCAC.
The investigation is continuing and Indiana Borough Police Chief Justin Schawl says that there is no threat to the citizens of the borough. IUP police are assisting borough police in the investigation. Anyone with information on the shooting is asked to call police at 724-349-2121.
