HERSHEY – River Valley’s deep run into the state playoffs stopped one win short of a state championship at the hands of Dunmore, 42-30, Thursday night at the Giant Center.

Dunmore led through the whole game, with 6-4 Ciera Toomey scoring 14 points and hauling in 21 rebounds. Dunmore held a 36-24 advantage on the boards scored 24 of its points in the paint.
Sophomore standout Ava Persichetti scored a game-high 18 points for River Valley while taking 20 of the team’s 37 shots. Emilee Staats led the Panthers with seven rebounds.
River Valley went on a seven-point run in the third quarter, its longest of the game, and closed the gap to 27-23 on a Persichetti 3-pointer, but the Panthers would get no closer.
River Valley finished the season at 29-3. Mark Bertig talked about the success of the Panthers and the Homer-Center Wildcats, who lost in the 2A girls’ championship earlier in the day.
