The Arnold Palmer Regional Airport will have a route to a popular vacation destination restored sooner than expected.
Westmoreland County Airport Authority Executive Director Gabe Monzo announced that Spirit Airlines will restore service from the airport in Unity Township to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina on May 5th, about a month earlier than expected. Spirit had put the route on pause late last year along with a route that ran between Latrobe and Fort Lauderdale, Florida. As of right now, the only route available is a route between Latrobe and Orlando.
The flights between Latrobe and Myrtle Beach were stopped last November, with industry experts saying that staffing, pilot and air-traffic controller shortages were underlying factors in the decline in travel.
