Heritage Conference Championship Night, presented by First Commonwealth Bank tonight at the Kovalchick Convention & Athletic Complex features two basketball title games, a student art show, scholarships, and honors for students and contributors.
The marquee events are the girls and boys basketball championship games. The girls game will feature the two top finishers from the Heritage West, as River Valley plays two-time defending conference champion Homer-Center. The Panthers beat the Wildcats twice in the regular season.
River Valley coach Ricc Brown says that it’s an important “next step” for a team with high aspirations.
Homer-Center coach Nick Moore says his team is fired up for another chance to play at the KCAC.
The boys championship game will feature the top team from the East taking on the number one team from the West, as the Portage Mustangs meet the defending conference champion United Lions. Portage won the only meeting of the season between the two, 84-79 in overtime.
United coach Matt Rodkey says his team needs to be aware of the number of weapons Portage has.
Portage coach Travis Kargo is impressed with United.
Heritage Conference President Jody Rainey says the night at the KCAC is a showcase for the principles on which the Heritage Conference is based.
The action tips off with the girls game at six o’clock. We are on the air on Cat Country 106.3 FM and on Renda Digital TV, presented by the Graceton-Coral Sportsmen Club, at 5:30.
