Tuesday night, Indiana Borough Council approved a new school safety agreement for the Indiana School District.
The agreement, which was approved by the Indiana School Board earlier this month, will give Indiana Borough Police the authority to respond to calls in all six Indiana School District schools, according to Chief Justin Schawl.
In other business, Schawl presented the police department’s annual report, which showed that police responded to 9,471 calls for service. Schawl called 2022 a solid year and talked about some of the ongoing efforts.
It was also announced during the meeting that Jonathan Warnock would step down from his position as 4th Ward representative. A new council member will need to be appointed to fill the remainder of the term until the end of the year. Fellow 4th Ward council members Tamara Collazzo and Kaycee Newell will nominate a new council member in the future.
