The Indiana Area School Board was busy Monday night with its annual reorganization meeting, followed by the regular board meeting.
During the reorganization meeting, Walter Schroth was re-elected as board president by an 8-1 vote. Schroth was grateful for his re-election and said he plans on getting students to learn how to read, something that he said was lost over the last couple of years.
The board also approved the regular meeting dates for the second Monday of each month. Meetings will continue to start at 7 p.m.
The regular meeting followed and talks centered around the Eisenhower Elementary Project.
The board voted to approve two motions concerning seeking third party consultants. One authorized the administration to seek proposals to have a consultant provide a second cost estimate for the project, and that Colkitt Law Firm be allowed to work with an outside consultant to work on the Eisenhower insurance claim not to exceed $20,000.
Schroth emphasized the importance of getting second opinions from these consultants, saying it would ensure that district funds were spent properly.
Terry Kerr, chair of the Buildings/Grounds & Transportation Committee, outlined the next steps in getting the cost estimates.
The actual contract for that will be brought back to the board for approval.
In other business, the board approved hiring Franciska Walter as a paraeducator, while Tim Beatty was named the senior high assistant rifle coach.
