District 4 champion Canton jumped to an early lead and Northern Cambria could not recover Saturday night in the PIAA Class A football quarterfinals. Canton won the game, 42-13, ending the area’s high school football season.
Canton took a 28-0 lead with the first four scores of the game, all in the first quarter. They opened the game with a 77-yard kickoff return for a touchdown by Weston Bellows. Then Hayden Ward added a 24-yard touchdown run, Riley Parker returned an interception 25 yards for another score, and Parker scored on a 2-yard run.
Northern Cambria fought back with a 64-yard run by Colton Paronish, followed by a 2-yard scoring run by Owen Bougher. But Ward scored again for Canton on a 12-yard run and in the second half Hudson Ward ran one in from 49 yards for a 42-7 lead. Bougher ended the night’s scoring with an 11- yard touchdown pass to Xander Dolansky.
Northern Cambria finishes the season at 10-4. Canton (12-1) will face District 3 champion Steelton-Highspire in the state semifinals.
