The Pirates yesterday claimed right-handed pitcher Peter Solomon off waivers from the Astros after yesterday’s game. They added him to the 40-man roster and transferred right-hander Colin Holderman to the 60-day injured list.
Bucs third baseman Ke’Bryan Hayes took swings in the batting cage yesterday and said he hopes to play in the Mets series. Hayes injured his left shoulder diving for a ball on Friday and missed the Saturday and Sunday games.

Andres Alvarez became the first player in Altoona Curve history to hit 20 home runs and steal 20 bases in a season as the Curve beat Akron, 5-2 yesterday. Nick Gonzalez had three hits and starter Carmen Mlodzinski threw four innings of shutout baseball, striking out five, including the first three hitters of the game. The Curve open a six-game series at Erie tomorrow night.
