The Indiana Regional Medical Center announced today that its multidisciplinary heart team recently passed a significant milestone.
In a news release, IRMC announced that the team recently performed its 1,000th percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) and it was executed by interventional cardiologist Dr. Athanasois Stoyioglou. A man from Indiana County was the 1,000th PCI patient and he said after the procedure that he “feels top-notch and like a 30-year-old again.”
PCI procedures often determine whether a patient with chest pain or other cardiac symptoms has a cardiovascular problem or disease, and it helps physicians choose the best course of treatment for a specific patient. One example of a patient needing a PCI is if there is significant blockage of a coronary artery.
President and CEO Steve Wolfe credited the team at IRMC, saying that reaching the milestone is “a testament to the proficiency our team at IRMC has built and the trust we have earned in the communities we serve.”
