UPDATE: Police chief Lou Sacco said that the victims, who remain unidentified at this time, are continuing to receive treatment at Allegheny General Hospital, and the investigation into Thursday’s crash is on-going.
WHAT WE FIRST REPORTED
Two people were injured in a crash late Thursday morning at one of Blairsville Borough’s busiest intersections.
Indiana County 911 first reported the crash at 11:22 AM at the intersection of East Market Street and Walnut Street. Blairsville and Black Lick fire crews were called out along with the Blairsville Police Department, Citizens Ambulance and Mutual Aid Ambulance also called out.
Ab Dettorre of the Blairsville Fire Department said that two people from Maine were crossing the intersection when a coal truck turned and collided with the two as they crossed Walnut Street. Dettorre said he felt that while the crash was bad, there were some good circumstances.
Two people had to be life-flighted to Allegheny General for treatment. The landing zone set up on Bentley Drive by Coral-Graceton Fire Department. Blairsville Borough and State Police were on the scene for about three hours investigating the crash before the intersection reopened.
The identity of those involved have not been released. The truck was taken to Taylor Trucking for PennDOT-mandated inspections. Blairsville Police Chief Lou Sacco said the department continues to investigate the crash, along with State Police and the Indiana County District Attorney’s Office.
