After an off day on Thursday, the Pirates return to action tonight as they open the first of two series on the West Coast against the San Diego Padres.

LHP Jose Quintana (1-2, 2.43 ERA) will open the series for the Bucs, while LHP Sean Manaea (2-3, 4.04 ERA) will start for San Diego. Airtime is 9:15 p.m. on WCCS 101.1 FM and AM 1160.
According to the team’s transactions page, the Pirates placed 1B/OF Yoshi Tsutsugo on the 10-day injured list, retroactive to May 25, with what reports say is a muscle strain.
Reports also said that infielder Tucupita Marcano was recalled from Class AA Altoona on Wednesday, giving the team Tsutsugo’s replacement for the time being, however the club has not officially announced the moves yet.

The New York Yankees signed former Cardinals infielder and three-time All-Star Matt Carpenter to a Major League contract yesterday and added him to the team’s active roster prior to their game against the Tampa Bay Rays.
The 36-year-old veteran started as the team’s designated hitter yesterday and went 0-for-2 with a walk.
