The Indiana Area School District has made the list of US News & World Report’s Top 100 high schools in Pennsylvania. At number 93, Indiana is the highest ranking high school in Indiana County. The report ranks 719 high schools in the commonwealth.
Indiana’s overall score in the rankings is 85.33. The scorecard takes into account the percentage of students who took at least one AP course (43%); the percentage who passed at least one AP course (28%); mathematics proficiency (74%); reading proficiency (82%); science proficiency (83%); and graduation rate (90%).
Since the scores are from last year’s school evaluations, River Valley is not represented in the rankings, but Blairsville and Saltsburg are.
Marion Center is ranked 276th, with a score of 62.24; United is 314th, with a score of 57.44; Homer Center ranked 396th, with a score or 44.68; Saltsburg was 445th, with a score of 36.24. Blairsville was 493rd, with a score of 26.66
Other high school rankings that do not have a specific number or score associated with them, placing them 507th or lower, are Penns Manor and Purchase Line.
In many cases, school rankings are lower because of unavailable data, such as a lack of a college readiness index or college curriculum equivalencies. Other factors influencing a ranking could include the number of full-time teachers, the number of impoverished students, the racial diversity of the student body, and free or reduced-price lunch programs.
