The pitching duel anticipated between the Pirates and Brewers on Tuesday showed up on Wednesday, and the Brew Crew came out on top again.

Before last night’s game the Pirates put shortstop Kevin Newman on the 10-day injured list with a left groin strain and activated Bryan Reynolds from the covid injury list. Director of sports medicine Todd Tomczyk said Newman could be out three to five weeks. Cole Tucker remains on the covid list so Diego Castillo started at shortstop for the Pirates last night.
With Milwaukee having won all five of their games against the Pirates so far this year, the Bucs get one more shot at the Brewers this afternoon. Lefty Jose Quintana starts for the Bucs against Freddy Peralta (12:10 airtime, 12:35 first pitch on WCCS.)
ALTOONA
Altoona beat Akron for the second straight night, 2-1, with the Curve scoring both of its runs in the 7th inning on a two-run single by center fielder Matt Frazier. Starter Mike Burrows threw five shutout innings, giving up just two hits and striking out seven. Noe Toribio pitched three one-run innings and got the win. Righty Austin Roberts pitched a perfect 9th for the save.
Game three of the series is tonight in Akron with Luis Ortiz getting the start for the Curve.
