At a work session on Tuesday night, Indiana Borough Council discussed the issue of fair representation across the council.
Council is required to make sure that the representation for each ward is fair and equitable based on the borough’s population. Two options were discussed by council members. Option one would be to keep the ward system but redraw the boundary lines, while the other option would get rid of the wards and make it an at-large borough council. Both sides have their own advantages. Ben Ford said that keeping the ward system would keep the neighborhood government setup.
While Kaycee Newell said there were some advantages to having an at-large system in place.
Borough Council requested that the manager create three different maps as part of their consideration of all options. One map will have four wards, but the boundaries would be redrawn. The other two maps will feature three wards and two wards. Those maps will be due in June.
