A pump station restoration project in Blairsville has received $680,000 low interest loan from the Pennsylvania Infrastructure Investment Authority known as PennVEST.
The infusion of funds will go to the Blairsville Municipal Authority. Plans for the project include installing cast-in-place concrete, steel reinforcing bars, structural steel restoration and a new bypass pump, along with two doors and five stop places. It also includes a new coat of paint for the existing elevator, spiral staircase, pump discharge leader pipe and raw sewage influent pipes. This system serves 1,788 homes in Blairsville Borough and Burrell Township, and this project is not expected to affect residential sewer rates.
In a joint statement with State Representative Jim Struzzi, Senator Joe Pittman said that the current pump station has reached the end of its useful life, so the project planned will extend that lifespan.
