A White Township man is now in Westmoreland County Jail accused of leading police on a chase in Westmoreland County.
Reports say 52-year-old Thomas Beener is charged with fleeing from police, resisting arrest and drug-related offenses for an incident early Saturday morning in Unity Township. At 12:30 AM, Latrobe police spotted Beener’s car run a stop sign at the intersection of Lincoln Avenue and Route 982. When the officer got close, Beener’s car started to speed up to elude capture. The chase eventually went on Route 30 west into Unity. After reaching speeds of 110 miles an hour, the driver pulled over and tried to flee on foot. Police used a taser to subdue him just off Route 30.
Police found methamphetamine, suspected cocaine, psilocybin mushrooms, brass knuckles and other items in his backpack and his pockets. Police also said that Beener had warrants out for other matters, and that he was driving on a license suspended for an impaired driving conviction.
Beener is now in Westmoreland County Jail in lieu of $50,000 bail and is due for a preliminary hearing on January 24th.
