Classes are in session today as the spring semester begins at IUP. The university is open for in-person instruction, but with caution. President Michael Driscoll announced earlier this month that because IUP has done “exceptionally well” in its covid-19 mitigation efforts, he and his leadership team working with the IUP COVID-19 Response Committee decided to stay with the original plan for face-to-face instruction.
Driscoll added that the covid protocols remain in place, including indoor face coverings. Free covid testing and vaccines, including booster shots, are available for students and employees. Safety kits with masks and other hygiene items are available, and IUP will continue to follow CDC guidelines on isolation and quarantining, with self-isolation options available on and off campus. The university urges students to continue to participate in contact tracing.
IUP will update its covid-19 dashboard with the latest statistics on Friday.
Commencement at IUP will be May 6th and 7th.
Some State System schools, such as Bloomsburg and Lock Haven, are beginning the semester with the first six days of instruction remote, and with staggered reporting days for students to return to campus.
