Fire crews were busy with two major calls in the county on Tuesday afternoon.
The first was reported in Center Township at 3:54 PM at a residence at 2625 Old Route 119 South. Indiana County 911 dispatched the Coral-Graceton, Homer City and Indiana fire departments at the time along with Citizens Ambulance and the Rig Team. The Black Lick Volunteer Fire Department was later called in to assist at the scene, and Brush Valley Volunteer Fire Department was called in for Standby detail for Homer City. Initial reports said that a garage attached to the house had caught fire. Homer City Fire Chief Terry Gardner confirmed that the fire was actually contained to a car inside the garage that was being worked on. Damage to the garage was minimal, and the fire did not spread to the adjoining house. No injuries were reported.
The second fire was reported in Montgomery Township at 6:10 PM along Gipsy Road. Glen Campbell and Commodore Fire Departments were dispatched at the time along with the Rig Team and Veterans EMS. Cherrytree, Rossiter, Burnside and Mahaffey fire departments would later be called in to assist at the scene, and Hope, Punxsy-Central, Big Run, Cherryhill and Hastings fire departments called out for standby detail. No other details are available at this time on this fire.
