Fire crews were back at the scene of a garage fire in Center Township last night as a rekindle was reported.
The initial call for the fire was reported at 11:33 AM on Wednesday for a car fire at 25 Young Road that quickly spread to the garage on the property. Homer City Fire Chief Terry Gardner said that the fire started with an explosion reported in the car by the person who called 911. The fire then spread to the garage.
Homer City, Coral-Graceton and Aultman fire departments were called out first, with Indiana, Blairsville, Saltsburg and McIntyre fire departments called out minutes later for manpower and tanker assists as they initially had problems getting water to the scene. Blacklick firefighters were also dispatched to their station in Burrell Township for standby detail connected with the fire. Aultman and Homer City fire departments returned to the scene at 6:17 last night as the fire rekindled.
No injuries were reported in the initial fire, but the garage was gutted by the fire and fell in on itself. The fire also damaged a small area of brush surrounding the garage.
