The Pirates had lost 13 straight games at Cincinnati’s Great American Ballpark heading into last night’s game. Some gutsy pitching in tight situations helped them snap that streak.

Manager Derek Shelton says starter Mitch Keller is beginning to figure out some things about pitching in the big leagues.
Shelton says reliever Nick Mears has earned a shot at pitching in high-leverage situations for the Bucs.
The series concludes this afternoon. The Pirates have not announced a starter, but it could be Connor Overton or Cody Ponce. Luis Castillo goes for the Reds. WCCS airtime is 12:10.
Shelton says the Pirates are being very cautious with catcher Jacob Stallings, who was placed on the seven-day concussion injury list on Monday. Stallings ended last season on the IL with a concussion, and Shelton says he was experiencing ongoing headaches and dizziness Monday after getting hit in the head with a backswing last Friday night and with a foul ball on Sunday.
