A Blairsville woman was jailed on Criminal Homicide and related charges after troopers investigated a domestic-related shooting incident at an apartment in Burrell Township, Indiana County yesterday evening.
Matraca Lynn Vrana, 28, was charged today with one count of Criminal Homicide and felony counts of Voluntary Manslaughter, Aggravated Assault, and Discharge of a Firearm into an Occupied Structure. Vrana was arraigned at 1:00 p.m. by Magisterial District Judge Christopher Welch and was remanded to the Indiana County Jail. Bail was denied.
On September 10, 2021 at approximately 8:00 p.m., members of the Troop A, Indiana Patrol and Criminal Investigation Units were dispatched to an apartment at 50 Barnview Circle upon report of a shooting. Upon arrival, troopers learned that the victim, a 27-year-old male of Blairsville, PA, had been transported by EMS to Indiana Regional Medical Center for an apparent gunshot wound to the head and subsequently died after life-saving measures were unsuccessful.
Upon investigation, troopers learned that Vrana and the victim were inside their shared apartment when Vrana fired a shot from a rifle at the victim. Troopers determined that this was an isolated incident.
An autopsy was scheduled for today at 1:00 p.m. at Dr. Cyril H. Wecht, M.D., J.D., and Pathology Associates. Next-of-kin notifications are pending.
A preliminary hearing is scheduled for September 20 at 1:15 p.m.
