The Pirates kept the Dodgers in check Tuesday night, but ultimately dropped game two of the three-game set, 4-3.
Here’s Joe Block with the recap.
Pirates skipper Derek Shelton said his team showed a lot of fight last night.
Shelton did say tough breaks killed the Pirates and any momentum they built throughout the game.
Shelton also talked about infielder Rodolfo Castro, who’s struggled as of late. The young Castro now has a .200 average and .668 OPS after going 1-for-4 last night with two strikeouts.
The Pirates and Dodgers wrap up their three-game set tonight. J.T. Brubaker (4-12, 5.13 ERA) will start for Pittsburgh. L.A. has not named a starter yet. Airtime is 9:45 p.m. on WCCS FM 101.1 and AM 1160.
SAM HOWARD STARTS REHAB ASSIGNMENT
In Pirates injury news, left-handed reliever Sam Howard began a rehab assignment with Triple-A Indianapolis last night. He earned a walk and a strikeout in two-thirds innings of work.
Starter Chad Kuhl – who’s been out of action since July 2, after he tested positive for COVID-19 – has apparently joined the Pirates in Los Angeles, according to multiple sources; however no word has been released on when he will start next.
Director of Sports Medicine Todd Tomczyk is expected to give an injury update either today or tomorrow.
HENRY DAVIS CONTINUES TO IMPRESS:
The Pirates might have struck gold with their No. 1 overall pick catcher Henry Davis, given his most recent performances.
After a hot start with the Pirates Florida Complex team a few weeks ago, hitting .429 with a pair of doubles and six RBI, he was quickly bumped up to High-A Greensboro.
Since his promotion, he is hitting .333 in nine games with the Grasshoppers and even hit his first home run with the team in last night’s loss to the Bowling Green Hot Rods.
