Steven Brault returned to action yesterday for the Pirates for the first time since injuring his back in spring training. Brault pitched well, but the Bucs couldn’t get the win in Milwaukee.
The Pirates move on to Cincinnati tonight to start a series against the Reds. Wil Crowe [3-5] pitches for the Pirates against the Reds’ Sonny Gray[{3-6]. The pregame airs at 6:45 on WCCS.
Manager Derek Shelton says Brault pitched well after settling down in the first inning.
Colin Moran was 0-for-3 and Erik Gonzalez 0-for-2 in rehab starts for Indianapolis yesterday.
Pitcher Chad Kuhl’s wife revealed yesterday that Kuhl and their 4-month-old son, Hudson, are both positive for the coronavirus and both are in quarantine. She wrote on Twitter that she tested negative and has no symptoms, and urged people to wear a mask and get the vaccine.
MLB yesterday unveiled next season’s schedule, and for the first time in six years the Pirates will open at home, with a three-game series against the Cardinals. They will then hit the road for three games at Cincinnati and four in St. Louis. The Bucs’ interleague opponents will be the American League East, with home series with the Tigers, Yankees, Red Sox, and Blue Jays, and visits to Detroit, Tampa Bay, Baltimore and the Yankees.
