A Cambria County man was killed yesterday morning in a single-vehicle crash in Blairsville.
Indiana County Coroner Jerry Overman Jr. says 41-year-old Jeffrey M. Detore of Twin Rocks died from multiple blunt force trauma after the crash, which occurred shortly before 6:30 AM on Route 22 and the Route 217 ramp. Overman says Detore was driving westbound when his car exited the roadway, struck the curb at the ramp, then a road sign, and then the guiderail. The vehicle then went airborne into the woods, ejecting Detore, who was not wearing his seatbelt, and coming to rest in a drainage ditch near Route 217.
Overman reports that Detore may have been intoxicated. No autopsy is planned but toxicology tests are pending.
A 34-year-old Blairsville man was taken to Forbes Regional Medical Center yesterday morning following a crash on Route 119 near Snyder Lane in Burrell Township.
State police say the man, whose identity has not been released, was already being treated for severe facial injuries by the time they arrived after the 5:19 AM accident. After a brief search, a small, crashed motorcycle was found nearby, and Route 119 was shut down for the investigation. Police say the victim’s injuries are non-life threatening, and their investigation continues.
There are two other accidents to report from the weekend in addition to the fatal accident on Route 22 yesterday and another from Saturday morning that we reported yesterday.
32-year-old Tiffany Smith of Blairsville was uninjured in a crash on Franklin Street in Clymer on Friday morning. State police say Smith’s minivan was approaching Spruce Street when it abruptly veered right and struck a parked car, causing disabling damage to both vehicles.
A Revloc, Cambria County woman escaped injury Friday night in a crash on Route 422 in Armstrong Township. State police say the woman’s mirror was hit by an opposite-bound hit-and-run vehicle just after 10 PM.
The accident we reported yesterday happened Saturday morning on Route 240 in Green Township, when a 16-year-old Clymer boy lost control of his vehicle and hit a mailbox, then an embankment and a tree near Lovejoy Road. A 14-year-old boy riding in the car was taken by Lifeflight to Children’s Hospital in Pittsburgh with severe injuries. A 16-year-old boy was taken to IRMC with minor injuries. The driver was hurt but did not require medical treatment.
