Today is the first day of the re-branded River Valley School District, but the district is still facing a legal challenge from a group that is trying to stop the district’s reorganization plan.
The district must file their objections to the lawsuit brought by Save Our Saltsburg Schools. The grassroots organization wants to put the district’s plans to bus Saltsburg middle and high school students to the Blairsville campus and to turn the Saltsburg Middle-High School Building into a STEAM academy on hold, while the district wants the case dismissed. The objections will be filed before Indiana County President Judge Thomas Bianco. After today, SOSS has 20 days to file a response.
In an interview on Indiana in the Morning today, River Valley Superintendent Philip Martel was not able to give much details as to the lawsuit, but did say that they were continuing to move forward.
After both sides have filed their statements, Judge Bianco will hear verbal arguments in early August.
