Former Penguins Goalie Frank Pietrangelo has joined a federal lawsuit against the former University of Minnesota Goaltending Coach Thomas Adrahtas, the school, the amateur hockey association of Illinois and USA hockey, accusing Adrahtas of sexual abuse.
Pietrangelo claims Adrahtas conducted weekly “visualization practices” on a weekly basis when Pietrangelo was a junior in college, and during those practices, Adrahtas allegedly sexually assaulted, abused and molested him without knowledge or consent. When Pietrangelo complained to Adrahtas and to other coaches, they said that the future Pens goalie “didn’t want to get better”.
Pietrangelo would go on to play for the Penguins for parts of five seasons as part of his seven season career. He is best known for making “The Save” in the 1990-91 Stanley Cup Playoffs against Peter Stastny.
