The Pirates open a brief series with the Chicago White Sox tonight. Tyler Anderson [3-7, 4.89 ERA] pitches for the Pirates against the Sox’ Lucas Giolito, [5-5, 3.86 ERA], who no-hit the Bucs last August.
The Adam Frazier trade rumors are turning red hot lately, with several of the top contenders in the American League chasing after the Pirates’ second baseman. Cleveland is interested in Frazier, who’s hitting .322 this season. The Indians were just in Pittsburgh over the weekend.
The White Sox are hot on the trail, too, with their second baseman, Nick Madrigal having had potentially season-ending hamstring surgery. The Chisox are in Pittsburgh tonight and tomorrow. The offensively-challenged Yankees are also reportedly in on trade talks with Pirates GM Ben Cherington. In the National League, the Mets are reportedly interested in Frazier.
Cherington said over the weekend that he is looking to cash in some of his best players for prospects to build the Pirates farm system up. The other hot commodity is relief pitcher Richard Rodriguez.
