The Chancellor and vice-chancellor of the State System of Higher Education will participate in a forum Thursday focused on Pennsylvania’s struggles with funding higher education, particularly at the state-owned institutions.
Conducted by the North Carolina-based Hunt Foundation, the forum will be available virtually. Chancellor Dan Greenstein and Vice Chancellor and Chief Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Officer Denise Pearson will be joined by the state’s deputy secretary for the Office of Postsecondary and Higher Education, Tanya Garcia on Thursday in a discussion moderated by Wil Del Pilar of The Education Trust.
The Hunt Foundation bills it as a “conversation about rethinking higher ed.”
The State System Redesign, which was approved last week by the Board of Governors, would consolidate six universities into two. The State System has already taken a number of other steps in its effort to regain control of its finances and ensure the survival of the fourteen universities, even though they may look much different in the future than they do now. A public comment period on the Redesign began last week and will expire on June 30th.
Thursday’s forum is at 1:00, and will be available via Zoom.
