District Attorney Bob Manzi announced today that an SCI Pine Grove inmate was found guilty and sentenced for assaulting a prison guard.
22-year-old Jason Hinshaw of Indiana was found guilty yesterday of a felony charge of aggravated assault for an incident at the state prison facility on February 6th of last year. Hinshaw was in possession of an electronic tablet that did not belong to him. When he was confronted by a corrections officer about it, he threatened and kicked the officer in the back. He was ordered by Judge Michael Clark to serve 15 months to seven years in state prison after the guilty verdict was handed down in the non-jury trial.
In his statement, Manzi praised corrections workers, saying “they work each and every day of the year with dangerous individuals in a difficult environment.” He added that it’s important that the criminal justice system stand up for the officers when an inmate assaults them.
