The new Congress about to begin work in Washington will be taking up a number of Biden Administration proposals, including a proposed $1.9 trillion coronavirus stimulus package.
The current stimulus channels $21 billion to colleges and their students, including money earmarked for Pennsylvania schools.
The website, InsideHigherEd.com says IUP will be receiving $15,342,277 million in the new stimulus package, with about one-third of the grants intended for direct student aid to needy students. Westmoreland County Community College will receive $5.1 million, and Saint Vincent and Seton Hill will each get $2.3 million.
IUP’s formula shows a minimum of $5,025,231 must be used for direct student aid and a maximum of $10,316,996 for the university.
The Biden proposal would pump another $35 billion into higher education institutions.
