The Indiana County Commissioners on Wednesday approved a resolution that opposes Pennsylvania joining the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative, also known as RGGI.
The resolution stated the numerous problems that many opponents to RGGI have stated, including the economic damage to the region if coal-fired power plants are forced to close, and the lack of in-person community hearings that were held. County Commissioners Chairman Mike Keith said during the meeting that he would like to have Governor Wolf come to Indiana County to discuss RGGI’s impacts.
Commissioner Sherene Hess said that she believes that there is a better solution to the environmental problem without creating problems for the area’s jobs and economy.
Commissioner Robin Gorman said that her main problem was the timeframe which RGGI was introduced.
The resolution will also be offered as testimony to the Environmental Quality Board. To read the full resolution, click on the link below.
