At Thursday Night’s Homer-Center School Board meeting, the board approved turning some sick days for employees impacted by Covid-19 into special sick days to help them with their pension.
District Business Manager Gregg Kalemba said that employees qualify for 10 days of pay under the Families First Coronavirus Relief Act if they were out on six criteria related to Covid-19 like quarantine or awaiting test results. The Pennsylvania Public School Employees Retirement System, better known as PSERS, does not honor that leave as part of that retirement policy. Kalemba said that the move will have PSERS honor those days under their rules.
The board also approved paying Smith Bus Company for days that were affected by Covid-19 in accordance with Act 136 of 2020.
