Indiana Borough Police have released more information about a drug investigation that was announced this week.
On Tuesday, District Attorney Bob Manzi announced that members of the Indiana County Drug Task Force had taken out a drug operation that was working from a home in the 500 block of Church Street. Police seized a large amount of methamphetamine, along with heroin, cash, and four firearms and took into custody 27-year-old Nicholas Beard and 29-year-old Ruby Gil.
Police say Beard’s arrest stemmed from a motor vehicle stop for a traffic violation in the 1,000 block of Wayne Avenue on June 21st. Beard consented to a search of the vehicle and police found 1.1 grams of meth, 1.5 grams of heroin, a firearm, and various items of drug paraphernalia. The charges filed against Beard this week are for that traffic stop on June 21st, but the charges for which Gil must answer are dated June 1st, which indicates that police were already aware of possible drug dealing going on at the Church Street home.
Yesterday on Indiana In the Morning on WCCS, D.A. Manzi said drug investigations are complex, and frequently take a while to develop.
This week, Manzi and other members of the law enforcement community met with some citizens of Robinson, in West Wheatfield Township, to talk about drugs. The town’s leaders had requested the meeting, and it was arranged by State Representative Jim Struzzi.
The D.A. says they are happy to speak to any groups that want to help wipe out illegal drugs in their communities.
Groups which wish to arrange a meeting can contact the district attorney’s office.
