The Indiana County Commissioners held their first virtual meeting today and approved several contracts for projects in the county.
A contract was awarded to Ligonier Construction of Lauglintown for the G.C. Murphy building project in the amount of $314,000. This will be for the demolition of the building at the intersection of East Market and Stewart Streets in Blairsville borough. The project will be funded by 2017 Community Development Block Grant funds, Keystone Communities Program funds, S&T Bank Tax Credits and local funding from Blairsville Borough. A second contract was awarded to DJ Wisor and Sons for the Josephine Sewer Infiltration Project for $190,190 for the replacement of 120 sanitary sewer observation stacks in Burrell Township.
In other business, the county commissioners approved a resolution that reaffirmed the county’s support of second amendment rights. That passed 2-0 with Commissioner Sherene Hess abstaining. Hess talked about why she decided to abstain.
The commissioners also entered into an agreement with Pittsburgh-based legal firm Thomas, Thomas and Hafer, LLP. The county has been named in a lawsuit filed in the US Court, Western District of Pennsylvania, alleging a civil rights violation in connection with condemnation proceedings that were initiated by PennDOT on the former Accent Fuels property on Route 119 near Homer City.
