It is something that is normally seen in the late winter or early spring, as a stretch of good weather hits the area, and it was seen over the weekend. Brush fires started to pop up across Indiana County, and that kept fire crews busy on Saturday and Sunday.
Indiana County 911 reports that the first brush fire was reported Saturday at 7:33 PM as Indiana Fire Company 1 was called out to Lions Health Camp Road in Armstrong Township. Fire crews on Sunday took on six brush fire calls, including one that expanded to a full structure fire. That fire was the first reported on Sunday at 10:38 as Glen Campbell Fire Department was called to Arcadia Road in Montgomery Township. Six minutes later, Commodore and Cherry Tree fire departments along with the RIG team were called out at that time as well. Rossiter, Clymer and Hope fire departments were called in to standby.
Another brush fire was reported at 2:17 on Maruca Road in Armstrong Township, and that brought Indiana Fire Company 3 out. Elderton and Aultman fire departments were called in about 15 minutes later to assist. Armagh and Brush Valley fire departments were called to Route 259 for a brush fire at 2:29 PM. Blairsville and Blacklick fire departments would be called into action by Westmoreland County 911 to assist with a brush fire on Derry Lane at 3:06 PM. Two more brush fires were reported at 3:27 PM on Shellbark Road in West Wheatfield Township with Clyde fire department called out. And Plumville fire department was dispatched at 4:58 PM on Route 210 in South Mahoning Township.
