At his preliminary hearing before District Judge Jennifer Rega yesterday, 36-year-old David Dilts of Clarksburg waived all of the charges against him to Common Pleas Court. Dilts, who was previously reported to have a Penn Run address, is accused of embarking on a crime spree on November 29th in southern Indiana County. He was captured on December 3rd while walking along Twolick Drive in White Township.
Police say Dilts stole the truck after swiping the keys from a home he’d broken into in Conemaugh Township, then stole the .22 caliber rifle in another break-in, in Young Township. He assaulted a woman there who caught him in the act. Dilts then tried to break into a home on Iselin Road but was scared off by a man with a handgun. He later crashed the truck in West Wheatfield Township, walked to a nearby home on Roy Boring Road and tried to hold up a man for the keys to his vehicle, but the man grabbed the gun away from him and knocked him to the ground. Dilts got away on foot but without the gun.
Dilts is charged with thirteen felony offenses, including five counts of burglary, two of them involving bodily injury to a victim. There are also three felony counts of theft, two counts each of attempted robbery and attempted reception of stolen property, and a single felony count of criminal trespass. And he’s charged with thirteen misdemeanor counts, including simple assault, reckless endangerment, attempted terroristic threats and unauthorized use of a motor vehicle.
Judge Rega reduced the bond from $75,000 to $35,000 but Dilts still had not posted it as of last night, and remained in the Indiana County Jail.
