The Clymer Borough Council approved a tentative budget for the next fiscal year, and offered support to name a bridge after a local veteran.
Council passed a tentative budget with no tax increase. President Louis Tate said that there has not been an increase in three years, but Council may have to consider it next year:
“We take it very personally, you know, we don’t really want to raise it. But, you reach a point where you have to. We just don’t want to reach– or have that situation where you put it off, and then when we do have to bump it, it’s a big bump.”
For now, residents can count on rates staying the same.
In other news, the Clymer American Legion addressed the council with their desire to name the bridge over Route 403 that spans Dixon Road after a World War II veteran from Penn Run. Private First Class Martin J. Popson was awarded the Distinguished Service Cross for “extraordinary heroism” in the Battle of Manila. He had also been awarded a Purple Heart and a Combat Infantryman’s Badge during his military career.
The council passed a motion by Joe Krolick to support the naming of the bridge.
