State police have released more information on a crash on Sunday that tied up traffic on Route 22 and sent three people to the hospital.
State police say that a car driven by 67-year-old Wayne Saxman of Latrobe was going East on Route 22 when he lost control of the Crown Victoria he was driving and went over the center cement median into the westbound lanes and hit a Volkswagen CC driven by Nathan Adamson of Homer City nearly head on. After the first impact, Adamson’s car hit a tractor-trailer driven by 41-year-old Elo Strudwick of Burlington, North Carolina as it sat disabled in the Westbound lanes. After bouncing off an area near the driver’s side door, Adamson’s car went partially underneath the trailer and stopped. Saxman’s car went off the northern berm and onto a small embankment in front of the Sheetz.
Saxman had a possible injury, while Melanie McInnes, a passenger in Saxman’s vehicle, was also hurt and the two were taken by life-flight to Allegheny General Hospital for treatment. Adamson had a suspected minor injury but refused treatment on the scene. Brenda Galban, a 61-year-old Burlington, North Carolina woman was listed as a pedestrian and had suspected minor injuries and went to IRMC for treatment.
