Emergency crews had to shut down the westbound lanes of Route 22 in front of Sheetz in Burrell Township on Sunday as they cleaned up from a three-vehicle crash that happened around 2:48 PM.
Blacklick 2nd Assistant Chief Dan Shacreaw (sha-CREW) said that there were three vehicles involved in the crash, two passenger vehicles and a tractor trailer. One of the passenger vehicles travelling east on 22 near Watson Chevrolet went into the westbound lanes and hit the other passenger vehicle nearly head-on. One of the vehicles also collided with a tractor-trailer truck that was sitting in the westbound lanes waiting to turn into Sheetz.
One person was trapped in the vehicles and emergency crews had to cut the car to free the victim. The extent of the injuries is not known, but Shacreaw did say that two life-flights were needed at the scene. No word on the identities of those involved in the crash, or their conditions. Homer City was called out to be on standby for the Blacklick Fire Department.
