State police had to subdue an out-of-control Torrance State Hospital patient last week after he attacked a hospital staffer.
Police were summoned after the suspect attempted to escape the facility. He punched one of the staff members in the face twice as he was being escorted to a vehicle. A state trooper arrived and the suspect took a swing at him and after he refused to calm down, the trooper hit him with a shot of pepper spray. After the spray got into his eyes, he immediately calmed down and paramedics were called to attend to him.
The staff member, a man from Bolivar, and the trooper both declined to file charges against the patient.
