With only one more parish listening session left on its schedule, the Greensburg Catholic Diocese yesterday announced a “Survivors Compensation Fund” for those who suffered sexual abuse as a minor at the hands of clergy.
According to a news release, the fund will “address the needs of victims regardless of time frames currently in place for the statute of limitations for civil law suits.” The diocese says the process, administered by the law offices of Kenneth R. Feinberg, will be in place by early next year, and more details will be released as they are developed in the coming weeks.
Bishop Edward Malesic conducted a listening session last night at Mother of Sorrows parish in Murrysville. The final session will be held at St. Bernard of Clairvaux in Indiana on November 29th. The sessions, facilitated by a newly-established Safe Environment Advisory Council, are a response to the Pennsylvania Grand Jury Report detailing sexual abuse of children in six dioceses, naming 301 so-called “predator priests” over seventy years.
