Indiana County fire crews were busy yesterday with a few minor fire calls.
Clymer Fire Department along with Cherryhill and Commodore fire departments were on the scene in Clymer yesterday for a minor fire that started in the kitchen of a home on Tulip Avenue around 11:00 Thursday morning. Clymer Fire Chief John Gromley said that when they got to the scene, they discovered the stove was on fire. They were able to pull the stove out to put out the fire, while firefighters in the house put water on the walls. No one was hurt or displaced, and damage was minor.
Another minor fire was reported in the area of English Lane in Center Township. Justin Smyers with the Coral-Graceton Fire Department reported that the fire, which started around 4:05 PM, was a small fire that started in the basement. Coral-Graceton firefighters got a quick knockdown of the fire, and limited damage to the upper floors to smoke and water damage. No one was displaced. Blairsville, Blacklick and Homer City fire departments helped ventilate the house afterwards. Smyers believed that the fire possibly started by the furnace.
