Indiana Borough Police say a 29-year-old woman wanted for stealing a pickup truck and striking its owner as she drove away last Thursday is now in custody.
Brittany Vareha, who has no listed address now but in previous criminal cases has been listed as being from Pittsburgh, was apprehended yesterday with the assistance of McKeesport police, and was brought back to Indiana County. She was arraigned before District Judge Susanne Steffee who ordered her held at the Indiana County Jail with bond set at $30,000.
Police said she stole the truck, which was parked at the gas pumps at the Sheetz at 4th and Philadelphia streets, and when the truck’s owner tried to stop her, he was struck by the vehicle’s running board. He was not injured.
Vareha is charged with theft of a motor vehicle, unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, driving while under DUI suspension, and recklessly endangering another person. Her preliminary hearing is set for a week from today.
