Indiana County rarely votes with the rest of the state, especially in statewide and national races, and that was the case again yesterday.
While Tom Wolf won reelection as governor by a 58 percent to 41 percent margin, Indiana County voters preferred Scott Wagner, 55 percent to 43.
Bob Casey won another term in the U.S. Senate, outdistancing Lou Barletta 56 percent to 43 percent, but Indiana County voters chose Barletta by the same percentages.
Glenn G.T. Thompson easily won the race for the new 15th Congressional District, 68 percent to 32 percent over Susan Boser, and he won in Indiana County, 62 percent to 38.
The biggest local race was for the 62nd District seat in the State House of Representatives being vacated by House Majority Leader Dave Reed. That’s an all-Indiana County district, and it was won by Republican Jim Struzzi by a margin of 58 percent to 41 percent over Logan Dellafiora.
In the other State House races, incumbent Republican Chris Dush was an easy winner over Kerith Strano Taylor in the 66th District. He took the race, 80 percent to 20, winning the Indiana County vote by approximately the same margin.
Jeff Pyle was unopposed in the 60th District, which includes a portion of Indiana County, and Joseph Petrarca was unopposed in the 55th, which in Indiana County includes only Saltsburg Borough.
Both the State House and State Senate remain under Republican control. In Congress, Republicans maintain control of the Senate and Democrats have gained control of the House.
