State Representative Jeff Pyle and Senator Don White yesterday announced another round of grants from the School Safety and Security Grant Program. $25,000 will be coming to several school districts in the area.
The grant recipients include the Indiana, Homer-Center, Marion Center, Penns Manor, Purchase Line, United, Blairsville-Saltsburg, Apollo Ridge, Armstrong, Freeport, Leechburg, and South Butler school districts.
Pyle says the grants give the districts the means to upgrade and institute new security equipment and measures. White says it‘s unfortunate that such measures are necessary, but “events have tragically shown that there is no safe place from violence.”
The grants can be used for hiring security officers, purchasing security-related equipment, completing safety and security assessments, implementing violence prevention curricula, offering counseling to students, and creating other safety and security programs.
The School Safety and Security Grant Program was created by a new law this summer, funded by $60 million in the state budget.
