The unemployment rate for Indiana County in September went up by two-tenths of a percentage point to 4.9%.
This puts Indiana in a tie with Greene county for the 48th lowest unemployment rate in the state out of Pennsylvania’s 67 counties. Forest County had the highest unemployment rate in the state at 6.3%, while Chester county had the lowest at 3.1%
The lowest unemployment in the region is Westmoreland County with 4.3%. Both Armstrong and Jefferson Counties checked in with 4.7%, and Clearfield and Cambria tie for the highest unemployment rate in the area at 5.2%.
The number of total non-farm jobs increased in Indiana County by 1800 jobs to 31,900. The largest factor was in the Government sector, as school came back in session after their summer break.
Meanwhile the statewide unemployment rate came in at 4.1%, which remains unchanged from last month.
